Finding My Story: The One with a Podcast

When Jenn at CVM People reached out to me earlier this year to ask if I'd be interested in taking part in their new Podcast series, talking about my favourite subject of Data Storytelling, my initial result was...well....mixed.

My Doubt:

Firstly, I was genuinely delighted for the opportunity, felt slightly humbled that they'd asked me and deep down I knew it would be a good opportunity to help pitch our brand to a wider audience. But then the inner voice got to me:

Would I be any good?
Would I have anything interesting to say?
What if I was rubbish? (Which yes I know is pretty similar to the first point but that inner voice can be repetitive!)

My Belief

It's this self doubt that can often get you, but then three voices convinced me otherwise:

  1. Sarah, my wife and co-founder of Finding Stories said "of course you're doing it!" (fair), and
  2. I understood that this was great opportunity to put all that I know about Storytelling into practice and so I had to take it, and finally
  3. If I could use this as an opportunity to tell my own story, explain my own journey, and if somebody out there found that inspiring or related directly with it, then surely that would be a great thing.

My Story

So of course I did it and here's the proof: A 40-minute tour of what I believe Data Storytelling actually is, how I became so interested in it, why do I think its so relevant today in the 'age of AI' and how can Finding Stories help others become better storytellers within their own teams and in their own careers.

I hope you find it insightful and useful. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out:
